Why Is Puppy Socialisation Important?
Dog socialisation is important, it’s how they learn to play, communicate and interact with each other. The vital socialisation period is up to 16 weeks of age, but even if your puppy is older than that, it is still extremely beneficial.
Well-socialised puppies usually develop into more relaxed and enjoyable pet dogs. This is because they’re more comfortable in a wider variety of situations and are less likely to behave fearfully or aggressively when faced with something new.
Poorly socialised dogs are much more likely to react with fear or aggression to unfamiliar situations. Dogs who are relaxed about honking horns, cats, cyclists, veterinary examinations and crowds are easier and safer to live with than dogs who find these situations threatening.
